Our 17th Century thatched holiday cottage is situated on the edge of the village of Wootton Courtenay in the Exmoor National Park. There is a small walled garden with the tiny River Hanny forming a boundary on one side. A fence makes the garden completely small child and dog proof.

Most of our guests have stayed at Bridge Cottage over and over again. We love it, they love it and we hope that you will love it too. Don't expect sophistication, it is simply gorgeous, with the emphasis on SIMPLY.

Plan of the ground floor Downstairs: A small entrance hall from front door leads on to the dining area on one side and the bathroom on the other. To the right of the dining area is the kitchen fitted with pine units, an electric cooker and a microwave. To the left is the sitting room with a large open fireplace and a small colour television. There is a "put-up" bed which opens to make a very comfortable double bed.
There is a big room off the kitchen, which houses the fridge/freezer, washing machine and spin dryer, together with an old sink. This room is invaluable for dirty boots and dogs.

Plan of the first floor Upstairs: - A small landing leads to one large twin bedded room and a tiny room with bunk beds, off which is a large double bedded room. A cot and high chair are provided.

The village of Wootton Courtenay has an excellent shop selling bread, eggs, fresh meat, fruit, vegetables and daily papers, in addition to a good choice of wine and spirits.  The shop also serves Cream Teas, light lunches, coffee etc.
Fresh fish is available weekly from a travelling fishmonger. There is a hotel, which is open to non-residents, and All Saints Church has services most Sundays.

One of the top English Winemakers has a vineyard in Wootton Courtenay and he will give you a very interesting guided tour (for a small fee and with prior notice - see links below).

There are a multitude of enchanting villages in the vicinity with a good selection of welcoming local pubs and a huge choice of footpaths and bridleways to Dunkery Beacon and the surrounding area. Minehead and Dunster both have pleasant beaches and Saunton with its miles of dunes and beautiful white sand is worth the 45 minutes scenic drive across the moor to the west.  En-route you could take a small detour and explore the beautiful Doone Valley (made famous in R. D. Blackmoore's novel 'Lorna Doone').

Horses and ponies can be hired from a number of yards locally to explore the area.

Minehead is just 10 minutes drive and is the nearest town for major shopping with an excellent fish shop, delicatessen and butcher as well as a large Tesco on the outskirts.
